The Hunting Accident. To begin to delve into their history would require a lot of name-dropping. Name dropping of bands they use to play in (and that would require even more name dropping of bands they use to tour with) so for now let’s just say we are grateful they found each other in 2009 to create this band. If you really must know their history however, the best place to read about it is here (http://thehuntingaccident.com/?page_id=2) . After playing and honing their own personal talents, Nate, Aaron, Travis, Pete and Brynne formed The Hunting Accident; a group whose sound is post-punk personified. Take a look at their Facebook page on the “About” section and you will NOT see a long description of what their band is all about. What is refreshing about the minimalistic approach is they are letting their music speak; and if you take a listen you are going to hear some marvelous things.

Clean, Complex and Coherent- The Hunting Accident’s yet to be released album Trees and Parks is filled with catchy hooks, nonsensical lyrics, and thumping bass lines.  Oh yeah, their album cover is made of wood panel too.

“Aubergine” starts off the 6-song album, and immediately you are hit with a catchy guitar riff that lets you know you are in for a good time. The rest of the album is a non-stop whirlwind of a ride. Keeping you on your toes, each song is just as addicting and appealing as the previous one.

One song in particular that grabs the attention of the listener is their cover to Robin Hitchcock’s cover to “Sometimes I Wish I Was A Pretty Girl”.  This song not only grabs your attention because of the lyrical content (“Sometimes I wish I was a pretty girl, so I can look at myself in the shower”) but because their cover is just as good as the original. Keeping the factors that made that song unique and then putting their personal touch on it shows these guys (and gal) are brilliant at creating not only their own music, but owning a cover as well.

Trees and Parks will be released July 16th on The New Black. This album is one that is NOT to be overlooked. Give them a listen, check out a show and like they say, “Let’s be friends”.
