Connor Garvey – Where Ocean Meets Land

A gentle breeze blows out of Portland, Maine from an independent folk/pop rock artist named Connor Garvey.  Connor Garvey sings lighthearted folk songs about living the simple life and how it can become difficult.  However, life’s problems always seem to work out in the end.  This whimsical adventure begins with Connor Garvey’s fourth CD Where Ocean Meets Land which was released on September 27, 2011 featuring eleven heartwarming tracks that sound similar to folk legend Paul Simon.

The soul searching journey begins with the second track “Backroads.”  This track features soulful vocals and “airy” acoustic folk melodies along with a mandolin “fluttering” throughout the track.  This track is a reflective tale about a man traveling down country roads and observing how people live their lives outside of the city limits.  Next, life brings hope to a young couple in the fourth track “Hold Your Breath.”  This track has a “rustic” folk pop sound with light acoustic melodies and soulful vocals.  This track is a peaceful tale about a man telling his girlfriend to wait and see what kind of joys life brings them.  The man’s girlfriend is nervous about starting a new adventure in life.

Meanwhile, the wonders of nature stir one’s imagination in the sixth track “The Bird.” This track features light acoustic melodies and soulful vocals.  This track is a soul searching journey about a man who is impressed with the tranquility of nature.  The man is observing how gracefully a bird flies through the air.  Finally, fear is racing through a child’s mind in the eighth track “Monster.”  This track has an “eerie” sound with slow melodic pop rock riffs and soulful vocals.  This track is a mysterious tale about a child having a frightening nightmare about seeing a monster.  However, the child’s intense fear will be gone by the time morning arrives.

Connor Garvey gives folk lovers a lesson in life, telling people not to worry about life’s problems because everything will work out.  Connor Garvey brings a refreshing folk pop rock sound to today’s music scene with brilliant musicianship and a superb vocal ability. Where Ocean Meets Land is a wonderful collection of music that will put a smile on peoples’ faces helping them to forget about the stress of everyday life for a little while.
