You will never look at a cloud and see the same one twice. Sometimes you’ll see a mushroom or a puppy dog. One time I could have sworn to see Charlie Brown flying through the air as he endlessly tries to kick a football. The simple word ‘Cloud’ could tell so many different stories in many various ways which makes the word Cloud the perfect name for this band. When you listen to their music, you never know what you’re going to hear. Claud Musker, Ben Scrivener, Angus Havers, Chris Ormiston, and Harpal Mudhar make up this mysterious band hailing from London. Eclectic is one way to describe these talented musicians as they will take you from one side of the spectrum to the other with flawless musicianship. Their three song EP “Free My Soul” may be short, but shows many layers to their abilities to transform from one genre to the next.

“When I’m Old” is a catchy summertime song filled with the catchy melodies and bluesy guitars. There’s even a horn section, some good ole organ playing mixed with some harmonizing vocals that’ll stick in your brain for days to come. It tells the tale of hope that ‘When I’m Old, You’ll Come Back to Me.’ The title track “Free My Soul” is very much like Coldplay with a subtle vocals set through an atmosphere of pianos, a full string section, and rhythmically staggering guitars thus proving their abilities to go mainstream if need be. The third and final song “What You’re Feeling Now (AKA Nam)” is a very groovy bass driven Dave Matthews-like song that has every element mixed into one. The guitars really take center stage with a blazing double solo that pulls you in two different directions with the same destination.

Cloud is a very unique band to say the least. They can take you on a familiar mainstream journey one second, and then take you on a trip into the unknown the next. I look forward to hearing their future songs to see what different shapes they will form next. But until then, you can open your minds and take in the shapes that float by watching them shift from one shape to the other giving you the familiar and the unknown but always leave you wanting just a little bit more. I will be keeping my eyes and ears to this band for many months to come for I am sure that I have yet to hear them at their best.
